The Michigan State Alumni Club of Metro Chicago seeks to provide a means by which a student(s) from Metropolitan Chicago has an opportunity to attend Michigan State University. It is our goal to help academically strong students who demonstrate both a desire to attend Michigan State as well as demonstrate a need for financial assistance. In helping to promote our endowment(s), it is also our goal to promote Michigan State University.
Currently, we have three Endowments in Chicago that help support students attending Michigan State. They are as follows:
The Leslie B. Rout Scholarship. Leslie B. Rout was a history Professor and notable author. This endowment, established in professor Rout’s name, is paid out annually to a deserving student from metropolitan Chicago. It supports a student to the tune of approximately $3,000 per year.
The MSU Alumni Club of Metropolitan Chicago Endowed Scholarship. This is a scholarship we started with the advent of SpartyBall back in 2006. We have raised approximately $80,000 for this endowment. Thank you to everyone who helped contribute to the success of this fund raising!
The Spartan Challenge Endowment. There is a new scholarship the MSU Alumni Club of Metro Chicago established in 2011. We have a unique opportunity as an anonymous donor donated $10,000,000 to MSU in 2008. Michigan State specified some of the monies be used for matching endowments. This is called The Spartan Challenge.
